Hi everyone -

Just picked up a A8L 4.0 and started reading the form.

1st time Audi owner and so far, the car is incredible!

Does anyone think that the wheel and tire package from the dealer makes sense? I have the 20 in factory rims with Pirelli tires.

The cost that I was quoted is $1,650 for unlimited repairs / replacements. Also they will throw in a clear bra film for the front & rear bumpers.

What do you guys think? The roads could be bad in the winter but my question is more on if this is the right cost for the package - the finance person didn't know what they were doing or offering at the time of sale.

I don't have a link... It is offered by the dealer.

As a matter of price vs unlimited replacements, does it make sense?

My old Benz used to have blowouts due to a faulty rim design.

Is Audi known to have rim issues?

My 2014 A8L TDI was optioned with the 20" rims and Pirelli tires - I found the Pirellis were so hard that the road noise through the suspension was annoying - the only quiet aggressive all season tire in the 20" size is a Dunlop - these are much softer and certainly would have better grip on slick roads or minor snow falls - it sounds like your dealer either has a great profit product selling a wheel and tire replacement package...or...the narrow side wall tire and/or the 20" rim is subject to damage in the area you live in - if your streets are full of potholes this "insurance" might make sense - if not, it might be an expense to avoid and take your chances

IMHO, you just spent probably ~100K on a car, the $1650 wheel and tire package won't break you, but then again I am also the kind of guy who gets the wheel and tire package because the tire replacement gives me peace of mind. Is it worth that to you for peace of mind?
