And yes, I can tell you that the 4.0T is a rocket when opened up...I haven't done any 0 to 60 runs, but I can tell you that 3.9 seconds wouldn't surprise me at all on this particular 4600+ lb. car, based on the 60 to 90 mph passing runs I've had to perform. The 4.2 is indeed fast, but the 4.0 is sick fast...The 3.9 seconds would be a most definite for the S8 or S8 Plus.
I wonder if that 3.9 second 0-60 is really for the 4.0T or if it's for the S8? Has anyone seen stats elsewhere for the 4.0T? That's the only reference I've ever seen to sub-4 seconds. In any event, it is quick.

Feel free to read the review for the 4.0t.

Here's their take on the S8, but if you're just looking for numbers, it turned the quarter mile in 11.9 seconds at 118mph, and 60mph came in 3.6 seconds. For the record, the Charger Hellcat, the current sedan acceleration king, does the same 3.6 seconds to 60 mph, and a scant 0.2 seconds quicker in the quarter, with 11.7 seconds elapsing in it's 126mph run(obviously traction, not power, is the issue here.)

Audi's published stats have the S8 4.0T at 3.9 seconds for 0 to 60. A pro driver could beat that under the right conditions in the trade reviews/drive tests as Jack has indicated. For the 2015 MY Audi shows the A8/A8L 4.0T 0 to 60 times at 4.3/4.4 seconds in their printed materials. Even if those numbers are conservative, those are really sick fast times for a large 4600+ pound car. My experience with my year old 2015 stock 4.0T A8L is that it is FAST!!!

Nah, give me torque, a bit of turbo whine and some nice exhaust note...And the A8 cabin to enjoy it.

Have you checked the insurance rates on a P85D recently?

Audi says they are "conservative" with their stats and numbers. Motor Trend confirmed this in an episode I watched where they compared the BMW Alpina B7 vs the S8. Even the new 2017 R8 Plus they went conservative with. They stated 3.6 to 60mph but it can do a lot better than that.
