There is thread in the A6 forum that discusses this issue in depth. It is a region by region rollout by T-Mobile of the new 3G frequency. If you have a MY2012 or 2013 C7 with Audi Connect and have active T-Mobile service, the covered modem update will bring it to the same 3G modem and compatibility of the 2014/2015 C7s which is also the same 3G used by AT&T. (Only MY2016 is dedicated to AT&T 4G LTE). Note that if you haven't received a letter yet, it means that T-Mobile is not yet ready to update the 3G frequency in your area. If so, a dealer will likely have no idea what you are talking about. Also, Audi has selected only certain dealers in each area to perform the update.

However, you can connect to Audi Connect through your vehicle using the AT&T sim card.

Audi American is screwed up on this and it is leaving a very bad taste in my mouth about Audi, even though I absolutely love my car. When it is time to trade, I'll have to think hard about buying another Audi just because of service (non-service) such as this.
The site works for me just fine. All I ever needed was the car's VIN to add it to the account and then it generated the PIN number that needs to be entered into the MMI. I can send destinations to the car from Google Maps and manage them on my.audi.com or via the MMI Connect app for iOS and Android. I did however create my account and configured everything back when I still used the T-Mobile SIM, but it continues to work since I switched to AT&T. I got new MMI hardware in my RS5 at the end of 2014 and I switched to AT&T shortly after that. I don't see how the SIM matters. As long as the car has a data connection you should be good to go. Starting with MY2016, AT&T will be the official service provider for Audi Connect for all models anyway.

That comment about the $100,000 car is Pure Class Envy PC bull crap. If it were not for you rich guys buying the $100,000 cars, that poor shlub would not have a GD job.

In the Old Days, that comment would have gotten that POS fired, but now in the new days, he/she will probably be promoted.

Audi needs to "unlock" the Audi connect. I get along just fine with my iPhone and a Verizon Jet Pack portable router.

Default T-mobile update in OKC

I got the same letter and took my 2012 A6 to Bob Moore on 8/28 and they updated the modem so I supposedly could get my t-mobile 3G back. Now I have NO cell connection. Bob Moore says Audi knows about the issue and they are going to try and fix it next week....what a mess. Call me if you want to discuss, xxxxx. Max

QUOTE=lgball;24703235]So, I got a letter from AOA that T-Mobile is killing the type of 3G that the MMI uses to communicate in my area (OKC). According to the letter, that will limit me to 2G only. The letter says that the dealer will replace the cell radio for free with a new version that will not only work with T-Mobile, but also AT&T. Too bad they didn't go ahead and do 4G, but this says it will only restore my 3G. Anyone else get this - and has anyone gotten the new radio yet?[/QUOTE]

It's a bad idea to publish your phone number in an online public forum. If you want to communicate directly, use private mail.
