No, it does not. Not a fan of the idea, feels dishonest.

I didn't think so but Thank God. Seems like an insult to German engineering to me.

I love the piped in noise feature, Porsche sounds one day, Ferrari sounds the next and then Lamborghini. What could be better. Regards. Ned.

'11 A8L as a daily driver is the only I've used it. And everything in between. I drive it every chance I've had long or short distance. Never any issues

Seriously? You can alter the sound being piped in? Have you ever heard and felt the natural low rumble/purr of the 4.2L? How can that be improved upon? I'm not being argumentative but seriously just curious. Is there also a volume control?

I don't know about altering type of sound. Volume is settable from 0-100% via VCDS. The setting under "Exhaust" under Individual settings in MMI gives basic control (Dynamic. Comfort, etc.). Thus my earlier mention of backing it off on trips to get car quieter at margin.

Guys in the VW world like Golf R's have no separate basic screen control AFAIK and often post about backing it off, esp. if they mod. exhaust. Don't recall what the S6/S7 crowd are doing--where more exhaust posts can be found.

My A8 doesn't have the exhaust option. I'm guessing that is an S8 only option. Although I'd be interested to see if VCDS can enable it. I'm sure it has the ability.

That's all news to me. Had no idea. That option was even there. I'm glad I'm perfectly happy with the way it is.

Audi's description of it FWIW. Way at the back of the 4.0T SSP publication:

Wow. That's amazing. I would have never guess it had something like that. Not sure if I have that feature on 2011, so I'm glad I like it the way it is.
