Hi there,

So I just picked up a new 2015 Audi S8 with everything but Night Vision. By chance do you know if the car is able to parallel park itself? I have read mixed reviews/mixed messages on the Audi website. If so how do you activate this feature?

No, that feature isn't out yet, and I doubt it can be retrofit.

Had self-parking in a Lexus LS460; you aren't missing anything. Even Lexus discontinued it.

Weird that they would advertise it... So are you saying it is available in the 2015 model in 6 months, or like 2016-17? Also, I am sure it is overhyped, but it looked cool to try it once...

It's a delayed introduction, supposedly due mid-year 2015. But who knows. Wouldn't even venture a guess re: what they'll charge for that option. We can only hope that it will be a stand-alone option and not bundled into a package with other more desirable features. I truly hate the idea of self parking and have no desire to pay for it.

I agree with other sentiments here.

Parallel parking is very easy... Just remember to back into the space and not drive forward into the space.

Thanks for your responses. That's cool, would be nice if Audi disclosed it wasn't available until later in the year... but I digress. Parallel parking is easy, here in DC, I do it at least 10 times a week, it's still a small pain every time... but this parking system from what your saying doesn't make it any easier. Thanks!

Don't forget most self parking cars require a much bigger space then any normal driver would require. Chance of finding that every where you go are slim to none.

Meh... I haven't parallel parked in over 20 years.
I just drive around the blocks and find a lot or garage.

We could all use the exercise anyway

It's available to order here in the UK as a standalone component (£410), but as often is the case, the US seem to get "bundles" or less options generally to choose from. I've not tried it myself, apart from on some A6's a few years ago. It worked, but not worth it in our family as my wife parks (ahem) a lot better than I do!
