Default Check Engine light on at 3,300 miles??

Just came on this morning at start up. Drove to work - car seemed fine. Came on again on start up for my evening commute. Stays on for the entire trip.

First thing...check your fuel filler cap to be sure it's on tight. Often times that's the simplest answer, and it can take a while for the light to stay off after tightening the cap. If that's not it, obviously bring the car in to have it checked, but if feels like its operating normally it's probably a simple fix.

Hmm, I thought the fancy gizmo's on the tech abundant D4's were able to distinguish a loose gas cap from say an imminently exploding engine problem?

It can. But it doesn't tell the difference between that and vacuum leak around the filler neck. Which is why it gives you a plain light, it's a way of suggesting to have someone who knows the car read the code and do the troubleshooting. There's only a few things that the car's computer will spit out a specific error, such as low washer fluid.

I know it's been mentioned but be aware of the fact that it takes three or four cycles before that light will go out
