Mine is European spec, German and Audi AG registred before I got it and the remote is even nicer than the key.
I find it very odd its not on the US spec, why would that not be included?
Beyond the meny level on the pic you can set start times etc and its quite nice stepping into a warm car when its snowing or frozen outside

Does anyone think it would be as easy as buying a new wheel? There is the perfect A8L that's been sitting on my dealer's lot for a month but doesn't have the cold weather package. He's willing to deal but I REALLY like the heated steering wheel option on my current lexus, and don't want to give it up. Can take or leave the rear heated seats- my kids can suffer....

Typically a new clock spring is also required, along with VCDS coding.
A dealer cannot use SVM to code it if it's not in the original PR list.
If it's not of the automatic nature you'd probably also have to retrofit the steering column surround to get the button derf pointed out.
I'm not very familiar with it on D4 though...
Personally, I'd use it as an excuse to buy some ultra high end driving gloves

I agree that it would be a useful feature in the US even if it were an optional part of the CW package.
This reminds me of a bit of Audi trivia . . . Back in 1984 when Audi came out with the new 5000 series, the flagship 5000 Turbo did not have cruise control. It was standard on the base 5000. No one noticed until a customer brought it to our attention. To make matters worse, it could not be retrofitted to the 5000T. A very big screw by Audi.
