Dealer took my S8 for an 81-mile test drive
I just had my '13 S8 into the dealer for its 25K service, and on my way home noticed the gas was down about 3/8 of a tank. I checked the service order and discovered the car had been driven 81 miles.
Four days after emailing and calling the dealership, I finally got a response from the service manager claiming the low oil indicator light on the instrument panel wouldn't go out, so they had to drive it around until it did.
I frankly don't believe him, but wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Magoo, firstly, welcome aboard!
It's been my experience that you do have to travel some miles for the dynamic system to give a valid reading following an oil change, etc. I witnessed this as recenlty as this past week on my own car following an oil change. Does the car seem OK now? Any warning lights?

Thanks for the welcome and the response. Other than the tire pressure warning coming on later the same day I picked up the car and a small scrape on the rear door, no other warning lights or problems.
My biggest concern is no one told me prior to or after the "test drive" about the need to reset the oil light, let alone drive 81 miles.
I could have driven it myself if that was all it took. I'm also curious just how far the tech would have continued to drive if the light refused to go out? ;-)
How far did you have to drive yours?

It's at least 50 miles.

Is the lingering low oil indicator specific to the 4.0 liter V8? I've never experienced this issue on any of my Audi vehicles going back to 1985...NA engines nor turbocharged engines. Perhaps this is a condition specific to these twin turbo V8s. It is interesting that they'd have a tech drive the car over 80 miles---which could take more than an hour of his time---just to get the indicator light to go off when they could have told the OP that it would likely go out on its own. I too would be dubious of the explanation and I'd be more incensed about the paint scrape on the rear door.

That's complete bull ****. They could have had you drive it. And return if the light did not reset. Was there a hour charge for labor for the 81 mile drive?
My last service include a screwed up alignment and although the car drives fine the steering wheel is off 5% from center.
The days of quality honest service are long since over!
