Default Enough! RANT. Trunk Lid!

I've avoided "complaining" about this but enough.

How many folks have problems with the power opening trunk?

How can I disable it? Remove the motors? Easy disconnect some linkage?

I have found it a pretty stupid option on my D3 except it does have its moment of convenience when my hands are full of groceries and I can't physically close the trunk. There is a "magic touch" with the D3 where you can manually open and close it which I normally do. Not sure if the D4 is the same.

The thing is Schizophrenic. It works one day and not the next. Works from the remote one day and not the next. Opens a few inches and stops. It's been like that since I got the car. It just drives me nuts since I use the trunk every day.

And don't get me started on the Foot activated switch. That worked a few times but not any more.

The electric thing must be a dirty sensor or something like that. I was hoping someone else had gone through the trouble shooting already. LOL....

Lots of troubleshooting on the D3 board, I am not sure how much has changed in the D4.

Does it close after opening a few inches? Or just stops? Do you hear the motor still running?

First thing I would check is the hinge alignment and lubrication, this can put a lot of stress on the motor. I would also watch the way it opens carefully, see if one side lifts before the other when the latch releases. You may get some clues there.

I was hoping that the D4 would have a better design!

Mine works trouble free just as it was designed. Somethings not right with this certain vehicle.

I concur. It took a bit at first to get the correct depth, speed, location, etc. of the prerequisite "kick" under the bumper but both my wife and I have it down now at least 9 out of 10 times. The only time we had problems with the remote key was when we had inadvertently hit the valet switch in the glove compartment. I have found it takes a couple of times after someone has manually shut the trunk for the remote to work properly again but it always resets on its own. Surely the dealer could rectify any problems with trunk operation.
