I just switched yesterday from the P Zero Nero Pirellis and I confirm, they suck, sorry. I've had two sets of these in my past, the first set on my BMW all were cupping within a month or so, bad batch obviously. The ones I just took off my A8 were bald in the back after 20k miles and loud. I got Conti DWS 06 (?) in 275/40/20 and they are awesome! much quieter than the Pirelllis in my opinion. And, sounds dumb, I like the tread pattern. These are a slight bit wider and fit the wheel wells better.

I have the 265x40x20 Pirelli P Zero Nero's and agree that they are noisy. They were fine originally, but after about 4K miles, they became quite loud and noisy. As far as handling and road grip go, with now over 13k miles on them they are still very good and thus far show no undo wear. However, the noise they emit would keep me from going with them again unless they were the noise reduction version.

My 2011 NWB had P Nero Zeros when I bought it, and I just replaced them with a new set of P Nero Zeros. No problems or complaints with the old or new set. Do I wish there are more options for the 19" wheel, definitely, but the Pirellis are a fine tire by me.

Thanks to all the feedback from A8 owners, I changed the order. I am getting Continental DWS 275/40/20. They come with 50,000 mile warranty. Discount Tire will pro-rate the replacement set if they wear out earlier. I had those on my BMW750, and they were great, even though they did not last 50,000 miles.

I hope the 10mm wider tires will fit, and the slightly changed aspect ratio does not affect the speedometer too much.

What choices do I have for a quiet tire. Since I live in the Southwest, snow and ice are not a concern.
Go with Conti DWS'06 Extreme Contact. Great ride & wear. Buy @ Discount Tire. Have. had on several cars.

I have posted on this a lot before. Search. Sorry I'm not an "A8 owner" currently BTW. Perhaps you mean D4? Constructive suggestion might be tone that down a bit if you want continuing advice. Everybody gets dirty in a dust kicking contest. Or if not, have at it...

Using DWS-06's now as lightweight winter season trial in 275/40-20. Was on DW's for summer.

20x9 wheels fit a 275. Just review the TireRack or other vendor spec's. Right there w/ the tire listings under "specs." 275 was std. 20" size back on D3--in a 35 series that if anything would take a wider rim as aspect ratio drops. D4 S8 uses 275's in 21's on a 9" wheel for the USA fitment. I dropped to 20" OE "A8" wheels for unsprung weight and related reasons, plus better tire availability. Zero issue w the 275/40-20's, even when I space rears out another notch. It is 265 that is the hopelessly goofball one off Audi size other manufacturers have just passed over as an odd duck. Biggest legit reasons to stay 265 are if it is a lease car or you envision a trade where dealer would want to CPO it and tires are still quite fresh. 275 will also help resolve the optimistic speedo error you now probably have. Run a GPS app on your phone and you'll see.

I wanted to update on the decision path I took. Having weighed various options about "upsizing" my tires to 275/40/20, I chose the conservative route and purchased Continental ContiSport Contact 3 265/40/20. The tires look very beautiful, and are noticeably quieter than the Pirellies I replaced. Let us hope they last longer than the Pirellis. They are more expensive than the competition, but the dealer threw in free mounting, hazard, and road force balancing to lessen the pain.

I just replaced the OEM Pirellis with the Conti DWS 06 in 275/40/20, bought from Tire Rack. I've had Pirellis on a few cars and haven't been a fan - too noisy and wear way too fast. I wish Michelin made an UHP A/S tire in this size, but the DWS 06 is highly rated and probably the best choice for me in this size.

How is the ride? Any issues with vibration or out of round DWS 06? Did you get them road force balanced at all? DWS 06 and the older DWS have always had issues with slight out of round conditions and many people including me had some sort of high speed vibrations with them.
