Good info here as well as opener programming instructions if needed. 95% if the time it's the opener rolling codes that cause the issues. Not the car!
Can't speak in the Q5, but should be the same ?
The real fun begins when you try programming. Older overhead door brand dip switch openers to the screwy built in buttons that newer ford expeditions. What a P. I. A.

Could not be easier if you have a rolling code opening system and go through the MMI under CAR. In fact, my experience has been to always try the MMI first unless you like reading German translations of American English. Just did mine today for all 3 garage doors on our new house and took maybe 10 minutes tops.

has anyone encountered problem to get the garage door to open with A4. My homelink is programmed but the car needs to be in a specific position to get door to open.
when leaving garage, 90% of time it does work. i need to leave driveway, roll back in front of garage to get to work.
with the other car, Q5, i don't have this problem.

A8 Homelink
After trying dozen times and reading different blog entries, I was able figure this out.
I own 2016 Allroad and for the life of me I couldn't program the Homelink button.
What worked is this:
I followed the MMI's step by step guidance.
After it asks you to go out and press the door opener in the front of the car and get the 3 blinks, I pressed on the CODE(Learn) button on my Overhead 1026 opener.
Then when into the car and pressed on the button I wanted to program. But these presses were long 3-5 second presses. And it worked

Well I'm glad I saw this thread. I tried to program my winter home GDO - first time I'd had the A8 here. I followed the manual and MMI with no success. Tried the learn button but not following the procedure listed above. All that did was mess up my keypad beside the garage door. I just now followed the procedure noted above, MMI > Program GDO > Press selected homelink # > hold opener in front of headlight / wait for flashes > press learn > press homelink button twice. Success! The only thing is either the homelink button is not well seated or the connection to the GDO is weak - I have to hold the homelink button for a couple of seconds to ensure the door is opening. Oh, and my keypad did not get erased this time.
Thanks for helping solve the problem. Much better than having to keep the OEM opener clipped to the visor.
