Default horrendous gas mileage

i have owned a 2016 A8 4.0 since june. put 2000 miles on it. the gas miliage is ridiculous. i average 11 mpg. my last car, an m5 driving the same route was 16 mpg which matched its epa projections. this a8 is way below its epa projections.

what do ppl think?

Way, way too low. I am averaging almost 50% over that w/ 4.0T S8. I didn't even see that on D3 W12 except the very worst tankful w/ 100% city stop and go.

Are you reading off display, or actually dividing tripmeter/odometer miles by gallons pumped? Gotta do the latter, though displays are almost always optimistic, not low like yours. But worth checking that calibration too by comparing calculated MPG's w/ displayed MPG's.

I would bring it in/get it scanned. You would think though if it were a spark plug plug or some such it would throw a CEL. Maybe take a look at your brakes through wheels too and see if any signs of rapid rotor wear, or a very hot rotor/wheel after a drive. I had that issue on a rear of my C5 A6 4.2. Rear caliper just hung up somehow (probably parking brake related) and I replaced it--ate through the pads on that side pretty fast at same time.

You're definitely supposed to get better than that. Calculate it out manually and if it is in fact that low, you have a problem. It could be running too rich due to poor sensor input or MP4's brake suggestion would do it. Or the indicated mileage is wrong. It isn't set to l/100km instead of mpg, is it? If it was, 11l/100km equates to 21mpg, which would be normal, depending on the route.

yep, that's crazy low. Even my BMW 750 got close to 17mpg in the city. Now, I have the 3.0 A8 and today I averaged 30mpg on the highway for 70 miles. Generally I get over 20 in the city.

wow. great feedback guys. i will take it in this week. at first i thought it was just break in problem but it is getting worse. i only use shell or costco premium. i finally realized this is really crazy as i had a 750 for the weekend and avg 21 mpg using same route. i will ask the dealer to check brakes for wear. i have yet to get 300 miles for a tank full. i do calculate the miles with fill up and it is the same.

My first would be caliper hanging too. Should be able to smell it though. If still be surprised if that's not it. I assume plugs,& air cleaner is all good being a 2016
