How do you like blind side detection system?

Perhaps you are on to at least part of the issue with differences in year model but also between A8 and S8. Because of it's higher performance bent, the S8 could be calibrated differently hence variances in how the system operates. At any rate, hopefully the dealer can get yours adjusted properly.

One of my tweaks is to order the convex mirror for the drivers side, which REALLY eliminates blind spots! All of my previous cars had these mirrors, and I consider them a real life-saver, as here in Virginia, there are a myriad of drivers that like to "park" themselves in your blindspot(s) on the freeways. I like to use those areas for emergency escape zones when something happens in front of me, and being able to see everything in that area is most helpful.
In Europe, most cars have these convex mirrors on the drivers side. For clarification, there are two types of mirrors available, aspheric, where only the outer third of the mirror is convex, and the full convex (your passenger side mirror without the "objects are closer than they appear" warning). I mentioned that all my previous vehicles (Porsche) had these, and I could order them straight from the dealer as I had all the relevant part numbers from Porsche's PET system.
For D4 Audi's, the part number for the aspheric mirror (heated and dimmable) is:
4H0857535D mirror glass (convex) with carrier plate
* automatic anti-dazzle left
