Let's talk radar detectors

I just bought a V1 and used in a car with no radar anything (my S8 is still being repaired) and it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.
It saved me from going a bit too fast in front of a cop. This was, ofcourse, in the wooded twisties around me and on Hwy 1, where there aren't too many cars around me.
I love it. I can't wait to use it in S8. The paperwork that came with the V1, explained ad infinitum all the new features to help with the false alarms of side radar and such on newer cars.

I'm taking delivery on my 2015 S3 next week and cost dictates I go with a portable unit. In a perfect world, I'd have the Passport 9500ci installed, but it is just more than I can swing (about $2k +install). My research seems to bring it down to Valentine V1 or the new Passport Max2. All other things (except price) being equal, what would you do? Anyone have experience with both of them? Alternatives? And with a mirror tap installation? Is Escort Live a valuable feature? Sorry for all the questions, but it's been a few years since I had a car worthy of this investment so I've been out of the loop!

I just installed a radar detector mount to my bike. I used my recently purchased V1. And still love it.
It saved me, at least, once on the ride in to work today.
And not even a single false alarm from cars with blind spot radar. I would pass cars and see their little icon light up as I passed them.
I am still awaiting delivery of my S8, so I haven't been able to use it in that.
The biggest problem I see myself having is thinking of the radar detector as a "cop detector". I can still do stupid things which can get me in trouble with out a cop having a radar/lidar on me.

I was able to use the V1 yesterday on a long drive in my S8. It performed flawlessly. I had it suction cup mounted to the front window. I still like that mounting the best as it is high and out of the way.
The only funny thing I was able to see with the V1, was when I brought the unit down to about chest height in the cabin, the V1 lit up like it was getting hit by ladar from the front. I could reproduce this consistently.
The V1 worked great all up and down and around the windshield, it was just when I brought it down and into the cabin that the ladar alarms would go off.
I haven't had a chance to try the V1 with the adaptive cruise control yet.

My V-1 seems to do just fine on the road. The one thing I can't figure out is why it activates when I first drive off in a cold car. It goes crazy until the car warms up and then it is OK.

At best a detector can warn you when cars in front of you are targeted. I suppose this is a selling point and offers some value.
However, if you are alone on a road or the gun is engaged at your vehicle, From the time your detector warns you its too late. Your foot cannot respond to the brake pedal quicker than a laser (or radar) from a gun. Just drive no more than 5 mph over and you will be fine.
Or, If you speed, make sure several other cars ahead of you are also speeding. I make it a habit never to be the fastest or even 2nd fastest car on the road

Ok, I used the V1 with the adaptive cruise today, and again, no false alarms, beeps or other misgivings.
You can see in the pic both the ACC symbol and the V1
I don't think that most of us want to speed, we just don't want to get caught. I get the most tickets when I'm not paying any attention and just cruising along.
The free app Waze is fantastic for police activity (amongst other things) notification.

That's why you need a jammer.
