Mice!
New (to us) 2015 A8L with 9,000 miles. Horn inop, high beams not functioning. Trip to dealer resulted in unusual phone call with pictures attached of rodent damage in the electrical connections just underneath the rear deck in the trunk. Wires chewed through with some fraying of surrounding plastic. Not covered under warranty, so $450 repair. Tech said it was becoming a common problem, so have installed several high-frequency noise generators in trunk, under the hood and in the garage. Never have had this problem with any other vehicle....anyone else getting chewed on?

I had a petrified mouse in the airbox once. Another car had the hood insulation chewed up. And my cousin got their cat when they found it after it crawled up in the engine bay while they were hunting(good thing it made noise before they started it.) Animals and cars can be even worse a combination than children and cars.

Happened to my mother's 2000 Buick. She drove it infrequently. One day she went out and it wouldn't start. Towed to the dealership where they found wiring under the hood had been destroyed by rodents.

It's amazing the tight spaces mice can squeeze through. I've had a mouse problem for years in my basement despite sealing every single crack or opening that I could find multiple times. They will find a way in.

A mouse can squeeze through as little as a quarter inch gap. The bones in the skull and ribcage are not fixed, and can be flattened to fit through a gap. Those crafty little demo artists.

Apparently Audi uses vegetable oil to lubricate wiring harnesses for easy installation? If true, that is insane. Should put Bitrex or something into the lubricant.
