Default MMI screen "drooping"

Hi

Has anyone had problems with their MMI screen not staying up or sometimes not even going up ? It sounds like mine is struggling to get traction when going up/down. I hope it doesn't require a new screen as I bet that's not cheap.

cheers

Same thing happened to me. The screen would pop up then droop down about an inch or so. It required a new MMI mechanism, but not a new screen. Fixed under warranty.

Mine too, happened this last winter on a brutally cold day. Started the car, screen when up, got to the top and popped, then fell down and inch or so. Dealer fixed under warranty, but these threads leave me wondering when will it happen again?

Sure would like to code it to just stay open all the time. There is no need to close it IMO.

Agreed. Keep it up unless I want to stow it away. Then I have the button to put it down

Mine would go down when driving but I found it stayed up if I was on NAV. Had the garage check to see what was wrong and they put on new software which fixed it for a while...then it happened again. So I keep it on Nav most of the time now and haven't had the problem.

Lol I can say that I think at least 80% of people will get this problem with the screen mechanism. I thought they would have improved them from the D3 but it seems this not the case. This is such a popular problem that people have made replacement parts that are more hardwearing than the gears that come as standard. Not sure if the D4 is old enough for people to start D.I.Y. ing it yet but it would be interesting to see if they have used the same parts for the D4 as the D3.

From what I have seen of the mechanism, it is not even close to the D3.

The look is totally different. With the D4 it is not a gear problem when they break.

The way the screen works is not similar true but it will still need a gear cog to rotate the screen up and down.
I hope it doesn't but When yours breaks let us know what it is :-)
whne mine went on my D3 it was a pain in the *** to fix but after I did it I realised that actually most things are not that bad as long as you're not the first to try it and someone has the solution before you. I would really be interested to see how it works.

Mine did already break, but the dealer fixed it under warranty so I did not have a good look at it. All I have seen of the mechanism is a picture from the internet. I believe the failure was either a spring or a link rod, maybe both.

I did a search for the pn# they replaced and saw a pic of one for sale on E-Bay. I could not see any gears like the D3 has at all.

I'd rather the MMI was always up and never went down into the dash when shutting the vehicle off, but the dealer says thats not an option. My wifes A6 does the same hiding into the dash when vehicle is off.

Ahh ok.

I love the fact that it goes into the dash and you can hide it if you want. I think it leaves the dash line looking minimal and clean but to each there own.
