It is my understanding that at least some DFI engines developed in the VA Group position the intake valves and injectors so that the injectors spray at least one pulse of fuel directly onto the intake side of the valves each cycle, thus getting the detergent qualities of the gasoline back into play. Whether this is the case with the D3 V8, I don't know. Thanks, Mike.
A lot of the cleaning is simply gas hitting the valves, just like if you used gas ever as a solvent. But the detergents help more. The later motors like recent 2.0T (circa 2014) added single another injector that is essentially like the old throttle body injection from GM. It sprays fuel further upstream and then hits the intake valves. That yielded another 10% or so power increase alongside, kind of like a power valve on old school carb. Yet more recent by at least some manufacturers are doubling up--both direct and port injectors for each cylinder. That of course sounds like a recipe for a bunch more costs as well as other new reliability questions.

Hi, is this destined to be a problem with the D4 S8 motor? (2013)

Just did one of those ceramic coatings to the car (easy DIY, if your into that sorta thing)

I chose the 22Ple VX Pro (22ple VX Pro2 Glass Coating - 30 ml | Free Shipping Available - Detailed Image)

Ease of application was a selling point and it really was easy once i stripped off the 3lbs of collinite insulator wax that was on.

Apply, wait a few mins then wipe off, simple enough eh? I left the car in the garage from thursday night until this morning. Took a few pics this Am before heading to the office, the car looks great. Also dumped some water on it in garage at different points over the last 5 days and nothing stuck! lets hope it holds up.

Will be putting a coat (or two) of collinite insulator on next week (or this weekend)

Nice... I think I'll be in one of these or the S8 Plus once my CPO runs out in 2018.
