Default Are my lights on?

This may sound rather foolish but I have had my A8 SE Exec for 2 months now and apart from at night, I have no idea if the lights are on or not when I am driving. Is there an indicator light in the cabin or a selection on the menu that will tell me?

Not certain if you are asking about Auto headlamp, or DRL function.

I think the light selector **** glows when they are on if it's in the Auto position, but it's difficult to see during the day.
Not sure how it is setup on the UK MMI but there is a setting for DRL here in the States.

It may sound ridiculous, but I can tell by seeing the reflection of them off things.
Other than that... I just have faith in Audi

Easiest way is to pull up to a building with a glass door and look at the reflection. Second easiest is to get out of the car after it is started and walk to the front of the car.

I know what you mean. Usually there's an indicator light in the instrument cluster letting you know. Not so with the D4. However, If you switch to high beam, you'll see a blue icon illuminate if the head lights are on. The other way is with nav display set to auto, it will display night vision colors when head lights are on.

Not sure what headlights you have. Is it a 2015 with standard LEDs, or do you have the new matrix units? You're in the UK, correct? On pre-2015 MY A8s with LED headlights you can activate the all-weather lights which only work when the headlights are on---if the green indicator light on the button illuminates, then you know your headlights are also on. That's how I can tell. Really is kind of ridiculous that they didn't design an indicator symbol on the instrument cluster...I recall that my previous two D3 A8s had such a symbol.

I had this question also. What I have found is I only need to look at the LED lighting around the head unit by the sunroof. If it is lit then my lights are on.
