I recently had to replace my camera replaced in my front grille due to damage from a rock that broke the lens. After I had it repaired, I discovered that the night vision assistant is supposed to make an audible tone at some point after the yellow outline turns red around a pedestrian. The car is a 2013 S8 and I use the night vision assistant quite a bit and I have never seen the yellow outline turn red nor have a heard the tone. I have the tone enabled in the set up preferences. When I told Audi about it the next time I had the car in for service, they said I have to re calibrate the camera I had replaced. I know there is a separate camera for the night vision assistant and a separate camera for parking assist. Do these cameras work together for the night vision assistant ?

Audi says it takes 7 hours to calibrate and they want over $1,000.00

Let me be clear, the camera that was replaced was not the night vision camera.

Image only turns red with audible tone when the system detects something/someone in the car's path with a likelihood of imminent impact. Pedestrians/objects to the side of the road will appear and be boxed as yellow. If your NVA hasn't previously detected a pedestrian directly in front of the car, then it would be the boxed yellow warning; if in front of vehicle and it didn't give you the red warning with tone, then the system wasn't functioning properly.

And no, the Night Vision system uses only the flat lensed camera that's inserted in the front grill Audi ring---The rounded camera lens that's dead center of the front grill is only for the front parking assist and also used as part of the top view system.
