Same here on an S6. Fans run right away after shutdown and run at a faster speed when hot out.

I have a RS7 and an A8 4.0, and cooling fans run immediately after shutting the motor. Only in the cold of deep winter, do the fans either not run or run for a short period of time. The heat emitted, I do not feel any different from my other performance vehicles. I have not detected any smell.

Are the cooling fans fairly loud? Now that I'm thinking about it I don't hear anything when I shut off the car. I will have to listen for it later when I take it for a ride.

Regarding the other advice, I had a good indie that I used to have service my '05 A8. I will pay him to give a thorough inspection before my 45K service.

I have not really stopped mine so far in extremely hot weather and/or when badly heat soaked. I would say the typical sound is modest to moderate. Obvious if parked in a garage. Can blend more into noisy environments outside but noticeable most times hardly even listening for it. Fans are not running close to top speed, but also not down at the lowest baseline speed like when you start it cold with A/C on.

Ok, I suspect my problem is my fan doesn't run after stopping the car. Tried it today, it is 98 outside, drove for 20 minutes, pulled into my garage and turned it off. Dead silence. Short video from the moment I turned it off below. Curious what damage this could have caused?

So, get it in for check & repair. Surprised no codes (or, have you checked?). Can't tell on video if sounds are the hot metal type clicking you can hear as they just star to cool off, or if it is something mechanical. If you heard anything that sounded like it was running, those could be turbo afterrun pump to circulate water to protect bearings. Hopefully that is in order. If afterrun circulation working, what you may have mostly is just some heat soak of plastics and so on--which we will all get whether sooner or later anyway. First the diagnostics and any fix. Then if under warranty you could go over everything carefully for cosmetic type issues that are heat related. I talked them into a new center motor trim cover on my D3 W12 when the logo plastichrome started to peel near end of warranty. Even though "trim," they covered it somehow.

I actually got to take mine on a little trip this weekend (400 miles) and when I stopped at a gas station the fans were running. Not very loud at all.

My 2015 A8 fan runs for a good 5 minutes after shut off. Actually sounds louder than if the engine was running.

I know this post is old but my question to the OP - did you have this resolved and what was a culprit of the issue?

My 17 does the same thing...... fans come on right after a drive when parked...... I try to keep my garage open until they stop.....3-5 min Outside of that, there is no indication the car runs hot while under operation
