Ordered- 2013 A8 4.0T
Just ordered a 2013 4.0T A8, NWB to replace my 2005 D2. Here is what I specified:
Cold weather package
Extended leather
Top View camera
LED Headlights
Dual Pane Glass
Sport Design Package
Sport Plus Package
Exterior color is Ibis White, with black interior. I’m having all the exterior chrome trim powdercoated satin black, and the Audi 5 Spoke wheels (part of the Sport Design package) will also be powdercoated satin black, as well as a tint on all side and rear windows.
One comment to make on the 4.0 twin turbo V8, the torque curve is very impressive, and represents a very unique state of tune for the A8. Take a look a the comparison chart for HP, Torque, and RPM where peak torque comes in for the various models:
(See attachment-table does not post correctly)
Notice the torque peak of 444 lb/ft is at 1500 RPM for the 4.0T! This is diesel territory, and I would expect the driving experience to be markedly different than any of the other A8 configurations. Having a torque peak of 444 lb/ft at 1500 rpm seems very useful to me, for a car in this class. Note the big 12 cylinder has only 19 lb/ft more torque, and this is at 4750 rpm. I know when I had my 2001 A6 2.7 turbo, it had a much more satisfying driving impression than the 0-60 numbers would indicate, because of the placement in the power band of the torque curve.
This car is going to be a real stump puller, with usable power just where you need and want it in a luxury car. Delivery is slated for the first week of November.

I just make a similar order (minus the LED and top camera, but plus the side assist etc.), but for European delivery. I have been given a production date of 1st week in September. Have you got a similar prediction?
Where did you find the torque figures? Impressive.

I don't have a production date yet, I'm told I'll have that date and the corresponding tracking number in about 2 weeks. 1st or 2nd week of September seems about right, I'll post the date when I get it.
The power specs for the 2013 A8's (all powertrains)are published in the 2013 A8/S8/W12 Audi Product Information Book, as well as pages of useful info on the exact configuration of the various models, as well as the differences from the 2012's.
Also of interest is information on the market demographics for A8 owners as compared to Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, and Lexus. I tried to post it as an attachment, but it was too large (~10MB). If you or anyone else would like a copy, PM me and I'll email you a copy.

I'm now 5 weeks into this process, and still have no production number, VIN, production date, nor delivery date. Actually, nothing even acknowledging the order has been placed other than the deposit receipt and paperwork from the day I ordered it.
Is this normal?
What have others that have ordered a car received in the way of progress documentation, dates, etc?

that means the dealership is waiting for audi to give them an allotment to sell. Once a month they get numbers for cars they can sell. Yours should be coming up soon. My order was July 12th, and the allotment was given August 20th. Hoping for Oct 31rst delivery.

I took delivery of my ordered 2013 A8 last week, a few days early from the 12/17 promise date. It was more than 4 months to receive the car from order date.
I promptly drove it all of 4 miles to a local custom shop for some upgrades, mostly painting the roof gloss black and blacking out the rims.
It was torture to spend 10 minutes in it and hand it off to a shop for two weeks of additional work. I was surprised to note the tires were Conti Contact Sport 3's, I was expecting the Pirelli Nero Zero with the summer performance tire option. I think the Conti's will be better, but we'll see. I'll post some pics of the finished product this weekend, as I take final delivery tomorrow.
