I am pretty sure piggybacks can be detected. I had something similar on my BMW 335d and dealer told me that clearlyt something was connected and removed prior to service visit. They ignored it as I had purchased 2 cars from them....

Was it a pure piggyback that basically fakes out the sensors, or a device where you flash it from a handheld unit via OBDII port? I had one of the latter for my 2010 Mini S turbo via Cobb Tuning--the guys who do a lot of Subies. With that one you rewrote flash with a tune, and handheld device had tunes for several octanes and stages that you could change in 10 minutes w/ just the device and cable. Little doubt an Audi type approach would now see that as a reflash, even if you faux set it back to supposed stock with the canned "stock" tune. Meanwhile Mini (BMW) locked down ECU a lot more in 2011, so much so that company gave up on trying to do any more versions for later models.

For what it worth I had the stage 2 tune done on my 2012 a6 3.0 with the pulley done. I ran 12.30 quarters and had it to 176mph. APR did a great job and my local dealer had a APR day. they were aware but I also didn't have any tranny issues. They did perform the fuel injection recall and reflashed me back but I just took it back to the apr tune for $100.00 after. I wont do the APR on my 15 S8 , The engineering seems to be another level beyond and I don't want any problems

APR tune are all ECU flash tunes!
you can change the program from stock, 93 oct, 100 oct, and valet, all via cruise control stalk.
I have had multiple cars tuned, MB,BMW,Porsche, Audi, and i have never been questioned by a dealer. Also many dealers install tunes themselves!
ECU tunes are simple and cheap power. Piggy Back are a waste, and just trick the ECU.
