Rear Bumper Blues!
Gosh, I sure hope the rear bumper on an A8L is just a bolt-on job! My wife nailed a sign in a parking lot today and scratched up the back bumper pretty badly! Luckily it was a breakaway sign that snapped right off and inflicted no other damage other than the bumper. How you ask with all the sensors warning her? I dropped by her office today to take the car to get it washed and gas filled and when I returned I made the grievous mistake in judgment to park so she could pull forward out of her usual space rather than backing out. Dumb idea! She got it, started the car, put it in reverse and backed up!!! Oh well, at least all plastic rather than aluminum!!

Oh well, no good deed and all that...
Yeah, it should come off fairly easily. It's actually a two piece assembly---upper bumper cover and separate lower piece, along with the polished metal trim strip.

Good to hear! That is what it appeared like to me in a cursory examination. The metal strip is what got damaged the most. At least with no body damage I doubt this will show up on Carfax as we will just pay out of pocket.

That metal strip is pricey. I had it replaced on my 2011 D4 3 years ago and the part cost alone was something like $370 IIRC. They do have to remove the bumper assembly to get to it, so the repair cost does add up quickly with labor.

Yeah, I am expecting $1500 -$2000 range unless they can re-use the current bumper as there is no real "damage" other than to the paint. I believe a new bumper would come primed and ready to paint and at least according to an online site I found, the total cost for complete replacement was about $1750 including labor. With our high deductible, probably just not worth having the claim on file.

Lucked out (well, as much as possible); estimate came in at 1200.00 with chrome strip costing $531 just for the part! I do have to say the rear bumper is tough! It took quite a lick with minimal damage consisting of paint damage only with the exception of the "chrome" (obviously plastic) strip which is purely cosmetic.
