Replace Night Vision Assist Camera?
Hi All
Four months ago I got my hands on a 2010 A8 with all the toys, including Night Vision Assist... Unfortunately the camera is cracked, and was when I bought the vehicle.
The good news is (after kicking up a fuss) the garage are offering me some cash to stop complaining and get it fixed The Audi dealers have quoted an extortionate amount of money for this, but I want to know is it DIY-able if I get a second-hand camera? Audi mentioned something about calibration, but I'm not sure if they were just giving me the spiel....
Anyone had any experience with this? Pic attached if it helps anyone!

Looks like it's about $220 for the camera, but I'm not convinced that isn't just the wiring harness.
There's also a $750 repair kits, but not sure what's in that either.
erWin says:
Then it refers you to Group 44.... for.... calibration.
That's going to be a dealer only thing since it ties into ACC and LA.
There's also a $750 repair kits, but not sure what's in that either.
erWin says:
- remove left horn
- remove air duct
- remove windshield washer hose
- remove R212
Then it refers you to Group 44.... for.... calibration.
That's going to be a dealer only thing since it ties into ACC and LA.

Get as much money as u can and spend it on something worthwhile.
I never use the night vision. I have a 2011 so it only highlights people. If it would highlight deer on the side of the road with a warning then I would consider using it. Currently I just find it distracting.
I believe the never cars have a program to also highlight and warn you for animals. Would be nice if there was some sort of software upgrade that would give older models that capability.

Thanks all, that's most helpful...
The other question, which kgd_007 pretty much answered, is "is it worth fixing?".
Maybe I just take the cash and call it a day (after all, I've survived this many years without night vision!)

Can't comment about whether it's worth your $$ to fix it, I can attest to its usefulness re: deer. While there is no "alert" for them on pre-2015s, using the infrared screen image to check for those suckers when coming around a corner, or spot checking on straightaways, is still beneficial IMO; certainly better than not having NV at all. Just my 2-cents.

Corrosion inside the camera
I have the same problem: Night vision assist fault.
I took out the camera and disassembled it to see this:
It is strange how did this happen. I bought the car recently and it seems it was hit in the front but not too hard. The camera looks intact..maybe the rubber packing failed and the moisture get in?
Tomorrow I'll be replacing it with same cam second hand from car morgue.
Is it necessary to be coded in dealer?
