Replace Night Vision Assist Camera?

Yes, the newer ones like my 2015 also have the large animal detection and even put it up on the HUD.
The system by its nature is thermal. The std. front camera that is part of parking system and 360 view is optical and separate--the round faced wide angle lens protrusion centered right below the four rings.
I suspect from the posts of late, that these various cameras and sensors are going to be a heads up revealing prior minor front end damage. Maybe stuff faceless people in the intermediary wholesale and sales distribution channels are cosmetically prettying up. But this isn't just buff out scuffs and tighten a screw or two any more--not doing it by the book for complex systems, glossing over the sensors, etc. I saw it when I looked at the first CPO 2015 S8 that supposedly was inspected and got an ACC error on screen when I activated it. Then I found bumper basically tampered with to put it back, but w/ missing screws on both sides at fender liner join point and generally not tight. On a dealer lot, this was waved through as "certified" and "inspected."
Net, renewed big warning signs for all to inspect every system, every switch, everything. Puts a premium on knowing all these systems and even how to activate before signing for purchase. This particular one pictured at start of thread could have been some general front hit, or maybe from the way it looks a piece of gravel that somehow hit right there. I have not had anything like that so far and mine displays cleanly and well. But I have had a bug hit/squash right at the edge of the nearby parking camera already. I looked like some ginormous radioactive bug from a low budget horror flick clawing its way on side of the MMI screen when magnified right at lens surface. Weird. One fingernail flick and exorcised.
As far as issue, as usual with anything sensored, I would try to mark all relevant screws, brackets, locating points, etc. to put new one in as exactly as possible adjustment wise to the prior one being pulled. Unfortunately component protection (CP) also tends to go with both crash and high value theft parts that are electronic in nature, so it won't surprise me if sensors like these and ACC and such also have CP--which means trip to dealer no matter what. Then the over the top electronic alignment cost just adds insult to injury.

Controller location
Guys,
My "new" camera I installed does not seem to work.
VCDS can't find it.
I suspect it might be the cable, but I can't find the controller board.
Does anyone know where it is?

Looks like it is under the front seat.

Audi puts things completely under the carpet and padding too. And not just under the seat, but literally in what seems to be the footwell area. You need a manual---not just a parts diagram--to confirm location. If manual starts telling you how to remove trim and then pull up the upholstery, that will of course confirm it.

This is the VCDS log about the camera error.
I hope the cable is the problem and not the camera or incompatibility.
