Seattle to San Francisco
Just took the D4 for it's first really long road trip (for me) - Seattle to SF and back - down on Thursday, back on Sunday. 2x ~800 mile trips in 4 days.
Obviously it's a super comfortable car to do those kinds of trips in - stick it in cruise, podcast/music on the stereo and sit back and enjoy. I won't try and give you the advertising company BS that I arrived totally refreshed and ready, but after 13-14 hours of driving I was in much better shape than I'd expected, both physical and mentally - just a quick stretch and a leisurely coffee, and I was pretty human.
I have the 4.2 and did better on economy than I'd hoped - highest range indicator I saw was 680 miles. At a fairly steady 70mph cruise for most of the trip I was seeing 600 miles from full to red light, which in both cases was just under 20 gallons...so I was getting a small bit more than 30mpg.
Possibly could have gotten a bit more if I'd had the patience to stick to 62mph, or hadn't had the mountains in Northern California / Southern Oregon to drive over.
Short story (too late !) Great car for a long trip - highly comfortable and reasonably economical!

These computed figures are always a tad optimistic, but not too shabby for such a big vehicle and engine.
I keep pictures like this to annoy friends who downsized to 'blanking cracker boxes on wheels' as they call them
I recently did over 2,000 miles on a trip from NC -> OH -> PA -> NY -> NC and it was just phenomenal how comfortable the D4 is.

I remember when I got the D4, filled up at the dealership down south. I saw "680 miles" on the range indicator. I chuckled to myself. I had not heard anything about the fuel economy at that point other than it was "better than average". But 680 miles? Pshaw! I headed northbound...
Then when I found myself in Springfield, MO, a mere 600 miles later, it sunk in.
30+ mpg in a car this big? Hell, 30+ mpg in ANY car that isn't a hybrid or econobox is incredible.

30+ at 70 +
I can attest to this. Travelled from DFW to Eureka Springs, AR with 5 people and a trunk full of luggage for a week's stay. I did 31 mpg at 70+ mph. My in-laws are from Germany and could not believe it (even after I showed them in litres and kph). And it wasn't a diesel. Hehehe......
