Tough decision
I am moving on from my 05 A8L soon. Problem is, I don't know which one to pick. Either a (D3) W12, S8, or an early model (D4) A8L. Input greatly appreciated.

Well, I love my 2011. Having been in an S6 with the 5.2 V10 and my car back to back, any difference in those two in terms of performance was negligible, if an S6 is anything like an S8. Big difference in exhaust note, though. To me, the 2011 and newer is worth it just for the massaging seats, which in the D4 are worlds ahead of those in the D3. It's also a strong performer while simultaneously getting outstanding fuel economy for a car it's size. thanks in no small part to the 8 speed auto. I faced the same dilemma before I bought mine, and you see how that went.
That's my opinion, anyway. Take it for what it's worth.

Nothing but little things. False positives on the blind spot detector, sway bar links($65 and 10 minutes each), 4 wheel alignment, and that's it other than scheduled maintenance. I'm at around 62,000 miles.

Jack88, I have a question. I'm stuck between a 2010 q7 4.2 with 50k miles for 30k, and a 2011 A8l with rear seat entertainment package (dual screen) with 59k miles for 35k. If I go with the a8l and everything works out, is that a decent price at that mileage?

Probably. Check the KBB for your area.
I went ahead and got a 2011 A8 (not L) with 36k miles for 40k. Been loving it so far! Good luck with your decision!

I went country wide as far as searching. It was the only one I could find with TVs in the rear. The cheapest I found in the country was about 29k but IIRC it also had more miles.

It sounds all right to me, assuming it's in good shape. As with anything, look for a solid service history.
