Turbo whistle?
2012 audi a8 3.0tdi
Hi guys, just wondering if it's normal or not for the car to whistle/whine under hard acceleration and when I lift off the gas?
I didn't test drive any other cars before buying this one so I'm not sure if it's normal or if I potentially have a loose hose or dying turbo. As far as I'm aware the car hasn't been remapped or anything. Car pulls well and there's no smoke or any other bad noises.
Are there any tests I can do in vcds to check for vacuum/boost leaks? Or should I just take it back in to the dealership?

Maybe were in different markets? I'm in the UK. Definitely a 3.0 v6 tdi. Seems to whistle most of the time. Maybe it's just because the engine is so quiet, I traded up from a 2.0 tdi which sounded like a tractor.

OP identified the motor correctly--different choices in Europe and other markets. The Q7 reference is confusing. That is a gas motor being described, not a diesel like original poster is talking about. If it is a "3.0T" that is--same motor as in later U.S. V6 gas A8's. It is then a supercharged motor as indicated in the reply--Audi confusingly names that motor. But it is completely different than the diesel in a 3.0TDI, which is of course a turbo. To confuse it further, there was of course a U.S. 3.0TDI in both the A8 and the Q7.
For OP, you might get more info posting on either the Q7 or Q5 boards here. Both have a lot of TDI owners of the V6. Q5 is the slightly more powerful version that came out a little later, but pretty close. Only a few TDI posters here at most AFAIK. Same motor as in the Cayenne Diesel too as another reference point.
