Default 1995 A6 quattro 2.8 12v 5 speed

hello all , I discovered today ,after trying to start this car . that it will start up and run without the fuel pump fuse ,# 17 , in. will not start with it in. pull fuse and it starts and runs for about a minute. put fuse back in , fuel pump primes but wont start, it acts like it wants to but wont, pull fuse it starts and runs a little ruff for a minute then I guess it runs out of fuel .anyone have any ideas ?

Sounds like your engine is "flooded". For whatever reason the fuel system is running super rich. When you pull the fuel pump fuse now the engine will pump out the extra fuel and run for a minute..till all the extra fuel is gone. Reinstall the fuel pump fuse and the engine goes rich and "floods" again.

Could be the temp sensor G62 is defective or un-plugged..Air Mass Meter may be up-plugged. Something like that. Normally if the temp sensor is un-plugged or the sensor is defective the ECU will make some corrections so the car will run..but check G62 anyways.

Could be your fuel pressures are too high too. A defective fuel pressure regulator (could be plugged with rust) will make the engine run super rich.

Check your fuel pressures..and if any doubt..replace the fuel pressure regulator AND the fuel filter. A new Bosch FPR is only about $32.https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aud...tor-0280160575

Inspect all the connections.

yep . that definitely helped the idle, but as soon as I give it gas it dies. fuel pump seems louder than normal too.

Still do the longer run with #17 fuse pulled? If so..do look at the spark plugs..they may be fouled. Any way you can check the fuel pressures? And the fuel volume..the tests are in the Bentley.
