2.8 coolant temp sensor location?
Hey all,
My brother has a '97 A6 2.8Q (avant if that matters) and the coolant temperature is whacked. Sometimes it shows operating temp and sometimes it doesn't register much activity. At times when it doesn't show much activity, even driving around for an hour only shows small movement. I'm thinking its the sensor that is shot. Car has 97k on it, probably about time.
Can anyone point me in the direction as to where it is located? At the back of the engine block? I hear the part is only about $25 from the dealer?
Thanks!

F76 in the attached link is for temp gauge.
G62 feeds information to the ECU. May be worth changing as well.

Component locations.

STFAs and you'll the following....
BTW, I doubt the problem is with the sensor. More than likely, you'll find nothing changes even after replacing the sensor, as I did with my '96 A6 Avant. If the engine coolant system has not been flused and coolant replaced, that is probably the main reason for inaccurate readings.

F76 Info

The coolant was changed a few years ago when the radiator was replaced due to a small crack
so it's not too long ago. For the $25 might as well give it a shot. If it were more money then I'd reconsider.

If you're interested, my old sensor is available for a small price and shipping...
I know it works, so you could use to check and see if you see any difference.
