Default New-water leak/carpet removal

ok-New here with a 98 Avant 152K with a wading pool after all the rain here. Got the worst out with shop vac, cleaned cowl drain on passenger side. The foam is soaked in carpet even after attempting to vac and wring it out with a board. I want to pull the carpet OUT and get it dry and clean before reinstalling all this. What holds the center stack in place? I removed the two 8mm bolts near the shifter and the 8mm at the drives side footwell and it tilts up but hangs up at the top of the front console near the dash and wont budge. What is holding it? Any help would be appreciated....

I did the heater core in my daughter's A6...the procedure did not require moving the center console. I did find some more details doing a Google search in which some people did pull the center console..it is not for the faint of heart.

As I recall the drains under the rain tray are near/under the center fan assembly..yours are most certainly plugged.

I would remove the rain tray (very easy) and clear the drains. Then keep doing the shop vac till it is pretty dry..you really don't want to pull the center console.

Well, I got all the seats out, the rear console is out and the front 8mm bolts out of the center console at the shifter and the 8mm on the drivers side front of center stack. It seems to tip up now but the top is caught and I have no idea what is holding it in place. I got the carpet raised up and some 2x4's under it with a fan blowing in on it after using the shop vac and several towels. I had already cleared the drain in the cowl. It was plugged with about 3" of debris. I just can't get the sponge rubber backing on the carpet dry to where I feel comfortable just reinstalling the seats. I bet I had 5 gal of water in the car....I'd even consider cutting the carpet if I could get it out from under the front console
