Default Death of an Ignition Switch

This one lasted 6 months, OEM part(4A0 905 848 B) from the dealer. There were no signs of external damage upon removal, but as you can see here, a piece of spring-retaining plastic has broken off internally.

It is absolute BS that after all these years and recalls, we still can't get a decent switch!

^^Agreed. $39,000 car with a 50 cent ignition switch. Nice.

Default Don't Dealer Parts Have Warranties? Like, 12 Months?

Of Course, you probably want to deny that you opened the thing up...

Correct P/N is 4A0-905-849-B, so if you got -848-B from dealer, then they gave you wrong part.

Default Not just a german thing...

A coworker of mine was about to dump her honda cute-ute because it was out of warranty and would intermittently stall while driving down the road. Her mechanic was just throwing parts at it (new spark plug wires to fix the stalling, etc.) Based on my Audi experience I suggested the ignition switch. Sure enough, that was it. The big difference between Honda and Audi in this case is that Honda paid for it, on a ~10 year old car...

Default I'd much rather fight the ignition switch battle than the window regulator battle

and instrument cluster pox battle of the newer Audis.
