Default Thanks for information

Hi Thanks for the information as I pulled the car apart looking for it over the weekend. Will check the fuse box under the bonnet.

I had exactly the same question - 1996 A6 2.6. My question now would be what kind of a scan tool to use on this: I have two OBDII tools, a VS600 Vgate and a more expensive Foxwell NT415. I have ordered an Audi-to-OBDII connector but will this actually allow my scan tools to work or do I need something OBDI specific?

Thanks in advance.

Good question..the 2x2 adapter should work but may not communicate with your OBD2 scan tool..but check and see. If not you may need the real deal from Ross-Tech.Ross-Tech Store: VAS 5051/2 "2x2" Adapter for Older Cars

Then there is the software..you can use VCDS lite and a lap-top. I use a third party interface from the Bay that communicates fine with VCDS, once you use a new driver.http://www.ebay.com/itm/VAG-COM-KKL-409-1-OBD2-USB-Cable-Auto-Scanner-Scan-Tool-Audi-VW-SEAT-Volkswagen-/151700855806?hash=item2352135bfe
There is a CD with a driver was is with the cable. The problem is the driver on the CD will not work with Windows 7 64bit home edition. The driver will load on an older Windows XP machine. The driver supplied is obsolete. Most people have Windows 7,8 or 10 now. The solution is to use an updated driver for the dongle: CH341SER.EXE????-??????????
