I got a to good of a deal on this 91 Audi 100 Automatic, there is a short I can not find that drains the batteryover night, and the transmission is now taking off in 3rd gear and not down shifting, trany worked fine when I bought the car, could the short have something to do with this? where can I look to get this under control? And where can I find a used repair manual for this car? Thanks in advance!!!

One of my '91 100s had the same problem. The wiring harness for the transmission is too short (betw. the body and the tranny). Open the harness (after carefully disconnecting it from the switches and the brackets) and check each wire; some of them can be broken inside the insulation. After repairing all wires make sure, that there is not any ATF in the Multi-function switch connector (back of the tranny); also the pins of the connector sometimes can "slide" back into the connector, so there is not contact in it. After taking care of all this, my trans. did not work perfectly still (but it had all gears) and I had small battery drainage. Now, this may sound funny, but after hours of searching and testing I found one bad (broken) wire in the small harness going from the body to the trunk lid through driv. side trunk lid hinge. I fixed that and the transmission works like new since. I hope this will help you with your car.

No, I am not German, only my name is. But I am from the next door to Germany. Let me know, how is your transmission doing.

Can you send a picture of the locations you found the bad wires? I have a 1991 100 that won't start unless I jumpstart the starter and will not shift passed 2nd gear.
