Default 1997 A6: Wipers move, no washer fluid!?!?

I just bought a 1997 A6 sedan for my DD. The wipers work, but the fluid for the windshield and the headlights does not come out. The 13 slot fuse is fine. I do not hear any pumps when lever is pulled. Is it the pumps plural or a relay? thanks! Glad to be driving a c4 again. Used to own an s6 wagon.

If the car has been sitting for a while and the washer pumps have not been used..the washer bottle can collect algae.

Take a look under the car drivers side and you will see the washer bottle and the pump. (you may need to remove the fender wheel well cover)

See if you are getting power to the pump when the washer lever is engaged (it takes a buddy to help), check the ground side brown wire too for good ground.

If you have power and a good ground..the pump may be dead or the washer bottle full of algae..pull the pump and inspect the bottle (flush it out if you see lots of junk). Power up the pump on the bench/under the car to test.

If you need a new washer pump they can be had very inexpensively from the usual on-line vendors.

This forum is very silent..don't know why.

What Rusty said, and/or the pump just simply failed which can happen depending on how often they were used.

Bear in mind the headlight washers only spray with your headlights on. [headlights are generally on in winter when the lenses are being caked with salt/road flack]

Last I recall the headlight washers have their own pump from the windshield.
Sound like either the pumps are dead or there is a wiring issue.
