1997 A6q keeps running with key removed
#11
Just a few thoughts...
I have never owned a 97 but I currently have a 96 A6 and I used to have a 99 A6 avant. One problem I have found with these two, especially the newer A6, was that once the car was apart, it did not always go together intuitively. There was always that hose or wire that fell down out of sight or looked like it was supposed to plug in in the wrong place. Look for places where that may have happened- especially around places that might have been serviced by a body shop, such as near headlights after an accident. Also, on a car this age, if you have a gut about a bad ground, fix it or create a new ground- the A6 and A4's of this era did have a number of grounding issues. Also, for intermittent problems, check relays because maybe something is sticking. I would also check wire bundles near hinges- I have had a few
Problems where an oddly placed bundle contained a broken wire that was grounding out- perhaps you have two wires making contact that shouldn't. My biggest problem area was one of the bundles that fed the lights on the trunk lid- it was on an older 5000s but solving it fixed a few odd issues. Good luck and keep us posted.
