Default driveshaft flange seal at rear of transmission ..?

Hello, been doing some work on my fathers 96 A6 quattro. The seal at the rear of the transmission where the drive shaft bolts up was leaking. I had looked up the part number before and thought I already had one of these seals in my parts stock with the part numbers

018 409 399B or
016 409 399B
which both seem to be 45x60x8.

When I got the seal out of the car it was clearly smaller, measuring 40x52x7 (or x8 not sure). The numbers on the seal are 0734 319 509. I cannot find much info on this seal, I was trying to find what the audi part number is?

Default agreed. I use this writeup...

from Audipages. it's the same except for a few items related to the exhaust and screwing around with some tight clearances.

fwiw, the last time I called my local dealer for this seal (for an A4 project that uses the same exact seal) they wanted to sell me an updated seal along with a $400 housing that would need to be replaced along with the updated seal. when asked if they still had the old seal they said 'yes, that will still work'....bastards!

ps fwiw, the seal AutohausAZ sells for this application is the WRONG seal. ask me how I know. buy a genuine Audi part in this case.

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/transealreplacement.html</a

Default Thats what I thought too, but I think its wrong.. ?

Thanks for the help, I'm not sure if its a part number mixup or what but I'm pretty sure that the "018 409 399b" is not right seal for this car.

I did some digging around and everything seems to say that the "018 409 399b" is 45x60x8 which would not be the right size.

Like I said in the first post, the seal measures to be about 40x52x8. I ended up finding this number "01E 409 400" which is 40x52x9, which should be the right size.

Kinda strange, check out these couple links..

And this one which shows the size measurements..

Default why are you looking at seals for 2001 models? that's probably the updated pn I posted about.

I purchased and installed the seal with the pn listed above in my 1997 A6 and it fit like perfectly.

Default I had the same problem,..

I pulled the seal off and have to wait another 3 weeks to get the correct seal :/

I noticed 18409399 is the right and left outputs, and I think "b" is the the rear final drive. If your reading this its already probably too late haha..
But the seal that was in there in the rear drive does have 0734319509 written on it. Which seems to be too long as a part number..

Default Replaces

On autohauspartsdelivered.com where I'm ordering from it says 018-409-399B replaces 01V-409-400
I'm ordering a bunch of obscure parts for a couple projects and came across their site. They have everything.
I did some digging to see if it's legit and it's actually the online outlet for a Audi/Mercedes dealer in IL. under the 'Autohaus' roof. So I'm assuming that information is correct.
