<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/138084/broken_brake_hose.jpg"></center><p>My Brake hose failed just after i pulled in from highway for a Burger(lucky it was not on highway)

The pedal was soft and went all the way to the floor . No brake at all!. Luckily this happened when i was about to get back to highway from burger place..

Now i have replaced both the front hose , bleed the brake and its fine...But a word of caution ..Please check your brake hose/line

Default Very common for them to crack and ultimately fail at these locations near the metal fittings.

I see this all the time, on almost all cars. Fortunately, the PO replaced my front hoses with braided stainless steel versions, and the rears with rubber.

Default keep an eye on those stainless hoses too

they also like to fail near the metal fittings - check every few months. see my pic poster for my old stainless rear hoses.

Default I even put a how to in the tech section. After about 7-10 years they show signs of danger.

I just did all my liens in a '95 C4, and plan to do my C5 in a couple years.

Get top quality flare nut wrenches. Dont ask how I know.

I'll tell you, I just got done replacing my front brake hoses (driver's front broke over the weekend). They are very problematic. The issue is that the hoses are too short - I don't know how they lasted 10K let alone 180K.

Just take the wheel off once and turn the steering wheel from stop to stop. You'll see just how much that brake line is stressed - right at the same point as A6George's.

This was such a concern that I ended up having custom brake hoses made for the front. They are 2 inches longer than the spec replacement hoses.

Definitely inspect those lines!
