Default 87.5 Special Build CGT for sale soon.

Hey guys. Long time no post. The time has come. Work, motorcycles, and life have kept me from maintaining my CGT like I used to. I'm putting out feelers on enthusiast forums before putting it on Craigslist for someone to buy as a beater...

1987.5 Coupe GT Special Build
  • Unknown mileage (over 200k, but probably under 300k)
  • Starts easy and runs decent
  • Second transmission - generally good operating order
  • Clutch was replaced with transmission 8 or so years ago. Was not used for commuting, so not a lot of miles on it. Maybe 40-50K
  • NEW Clutch slave and master in the past couple of years
  • Eibach progressive springs + boge shocks 8 or so years ago
  • New Control Arms/bushing 2ish years ago.
  • 034efi solid aluminum subframe mounts
  • 4KQ sway bar and end links
  • Euro H1/H4 headlights with battery relay system.
  • Brakes replaced in 2002 - Has slotted front rotors.
  • Jetta Recaro trophy seats - don't slide great, but have electric up/down controls
  • UrS1 Steering Wheel with correct Nardi hub
  • Alpine stereo with MB quart speakers, Kenwood amp and 8" JL audio sub. Not really installed, just thrown in the trunk.
  • 2.5" cat back exhaust with glasspak forward and stainless muffler (10y old probably)
  • New'ish valve cover gasket
  • New'ish plugs/wires
THE BAD:
  • Barely passes metro Nashville emissions. I send the injectors out for cleaning/blueprinting several years ago. The company that did the work said that they were basically shot and should be replaced. The cleaning helped for a couple of years, but I think lack of driving the car has got them fouled up some.
  • Water pump has a small leak (last replaced 10 or so years ago)
  • Digidash has a mind of it's own. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. I think it's power related, maybe dirty connection somewhere, or bad ground.
  • One H1/H4 headlight has a rock chip which has allowed water to enter. Perhaps the reflector could be re-polished and lens replaced?
  • Left rear tire has slow leak
  • visor brackets broken
The ugly:
  • Dirty
  • Door pockets have broke off
  • Hood had some rust repaired at one point, but the paintjob is shoddy
  • Rear hatch and spoiler have very minor accident damage (see pic)
  • Rust near windshield frame
  • A little rust in trunk under the carpet
  • Rust on hood lip from rock chips
  • Drivers side mirror has cracked housing

I've been told by a few folks that it might be worth in the $2k range. I would definitely entertain any offer. PS. Located in Nashville, TN

Do the window switches and lift motors work?

How is the windshield?

I've got an '85 with 89,000 mi. and I'm looking for a spare parts car...primarily for the windshield and switches/motors. It's going to cost almost $500 to have 2Bennett in Davis, CA source and install a new windshield for me, so your car might be a good source of parts for me, as my car is still bone stock.

I will post some photos up.

Thanks, and good luck with the sale...if it's still for sale.

Windshield is good - no cracks or major dings. Windows work - a bit slow, probably because the felts are all worn out. I believe that it has the newer style regulators. Made in Italy if I remember right. I probably have some extra window switches in with the parts as well.

For what it's worth, the window switches are rebuild-able.

Still for sale. Probably will go on eBay in the next month or so. :/

A lot of parts that would be great upgrades for your 85. Progressive springs, and rear disc axle for starters. The UrS1 sport wheel is probably worth $200+ alone.

Oops...she's got 79,000mi :-)
Perhaps we should discuss the logistics here, of getting a windshield and window lift items out to Kali, as I've never done a purchase such as this before. PM me your thoughts.

Here's a snap of my '85
