Anybody have a "Ball Socket", part # 431711221?
I've searched all the usual parts suppliers and can't find the "ball socket" that attaches the front shift rod to the shift lever at the transmission (pg 34.22 for those with Bentley). I found mine to be missing, which makes it hard to shift into 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse.
Anybody have an extra they'd be willing to sell? Also need the washer, #431711224A.
I can get the whole assembly (shift rod, ball socket, washer) from SHOKAN, but I obviously don't want to pay for the shift rod since mine is still ok.
Thanks
Rick

If you can get me a picture to confirm, I most likely have it*EDIT*
Impex shows it's available for 12 and change<ul><li><a href="http://worldimpex.com/search_by_partno.html?searchmode=partno&partno =431711221">Link</a></li></ul>

Thanks for the link....Here's a link to the parts diagram
I wasn't familiar with Impex. I'll probably get the part from them unless you'd like to thin your inventory :-).
On the link (thanks to kvquattro.com), the parts are #'s 29 and 30. My son has the car at school right now so it will be a while before I can get a photo.

You're probably better off going with new for somethin like that.
Try genuinevwaudiparts.com too. They are usually a couple bucks cheaper than Impex. I just use them because they are local.

Called 3 VW Parts depts. around the country - computer inventory said yes - reality no
Thanks for info... After striking out with the local Audi and VW dealers a helpful tech at GermanAutoParts (GAP) showed 3 VW dealers had the part in their inventory...however when I called them they couldn't locate the part...anyway, I found it at genuinevwaudiparts.com with the help of "kelbrig1".

A few pictures for reference
Here are some pictures I took of the linkage along with the broken socket, which managed to fall neatly against the transmission. I found it just sitting there while probing around....after 2 days of driving!
Below, the shiny ball is the ball joint on the gearshift lever at the side of the transmission, from a distance and closeup:

Below, is the top of the broken socket. I think the rest of the socket is still underneath the washer around the ball joint. I didn't realize it was a rubber piece until I found this.
