Default Q: on fuel distributors

I have this parts car, with mostly identical everything to my '84. It's been sitting since 1996 without any parts stripped off, except what I've taken off recently. I haven't tried to turn the motor over, and I know it hasn't run since then either.

Do you think that the fuel dist. is still good? I don't know how to test it on the old car.

Hi Ray; I am not an expert by any means, but I have a lot of experience with Bosch injection systems on old VW Rabbits. If there was gas left in the car I expect the distributor will be OK. I have removed them from cars that have been sitting for a few years and they were Ok. Water would be the problem. They come apart easily.(IIRC 4 screw on the top), and there is a highly polished plunger inside, if it was still shiny I think the rest would be serviceable. Be careful not to drop the plunger when you separate the halves. I have the Bosch Injection manual at home and could frwd the pertinent parts tomorrow.

Default A: on fuel distributors

You may have problems with fuel varnishing inside the fuel distributor...could cause the plunger to hang up in places.

Test it on your old car? Undo 7 banjo bolts and 3 clips and put it on your car and see if it works. It either will or won't. If not, chuck it, and buy another at a junkyard for $40 or so.
