front bumper

I have a 1986 Audi 4000s quattro. You know that black plastic strip on the top side of the front bumper? I want to remove it. I was thinking of the front bumper off of a volkswagon corrado. Does anybody know if this is even feasible? I haven't explored it that deeply but i think it would look good. Or does anybody know where i can get a stock replacement without the black? My final goal is to take the side and bumper molding off too. Any help is appreciated.

Re: front bumper
I'm pretty certain the black is part of the bumper cover, which is molded in black. It's just unpainted. Easiest way to make it go away is have the whole bumper painted body color. Ditto the rear.
Side moldings can be removed with some effort; they are adhesive attached. No holes.
The aluminum moldings are another story. Not sure what you can do with them.

Re: front bumper
Paint the whole bumper body color, as the whole bumper cover is one piece of plastic. The side moulding is removable, and doesn't look half bad that way either. On themetal trim on the bumper, paint them body color as well, because you have no other choice. If you remove it it will look incomplete- REALLY bad.
Speaking of ugly bumpers, that poor 4kq is the reason why I started looking for a solution to the reflector issue, THAT looks like ***. UGH!!

Removing the mouldings is a pain in the ***.
Yes, it can be done, but the adhesive they use is unbelivably strong. It is nearly impossible to take of the mouldings without bending the aluminum (the aluminum cannot be bent back properly). So make sure you really don't want. Start by prying from the bottom up, basically you are lifting them over ( a heat gun can help).
For the Corrado bumpers, the problems I see are:
1. The bumper mounts may be different
2. The angle of the bumpers on the side fender (wheel well to front). Our cars have a 90 degree angle, while the corrado's look like they have a curved 70 degree (so it may be the 4000 has a wider front end).
You may want to look into this. Also I have seen corrados with the Golf MK3 bumper.
Good Luck.

I DON'T want to paint the bumper
I really don't want to paint the bumper because the factory bumper is a piece of crap. It's cracked at the bottom and it's old and definatly reflects the miles on the car. I want the bumper all one piece and all one color with the same style lights in the bumper. If anybody has an aftermarket or OEM bumper without the molding not just painted over, please email me with a pic or reply to this thread. Any tips or info would be great as well. gukalicious@hotmail.com
