looking at a '91 200 Avant
i found one of these rare birds for sale. Pearl white, blue interior - 150k miles. decent service history, recent timing belt service, parking break cables replaced, rebuilt front calipers, still has UFO's.
Problems are: been outside a long time, moss is starting to grown on the seals; headliner is coming loose, still has UFO's, rear breaks are looking like they are about ready for replacement, one headlamp full of water. No dents, but a big scratch along one door, other than the scratch, the paint looks salvageable with a detail and polish. I offered $3,500 for it, but he wouldn't take it. Basically because he just spent $3,500 into a shop to fix some things...
I am not sure, based on the condition if going any higher is warranted?
Thoughts?
Thanks

Its been sitting outside for the last few years, with short drives every 6 months or so. The seller got a new car, so this one just sits. I spoke to the mechanic at the shop, he said it runs great, but still needs some things and its not worth putting any more into. What I can't understand is why put $3,500 into it if you don't drive it and that is basically the value in its current state. I think with everything fixed and a full detail it would maybe be a $5,500 car, but he would have to spend it just to break even, so why not let it go at my offer of $3,500?

There are only around 80 1991 20v Avants still on the road. Most of the parts are still available. Just depends on how bad you want it. I got mine from a friend for $1200. It even had a few goodies. But it sat at my house for a few years before he'd sell it(I was storeing outside it for him). It's rough around he edges small over boost issue crap paint cluster is out for repair. Maybe find out what it still needs? They are tough cars and tanks in the snow. Again all in how bad you want it.....

Parts are hard to find New.
I get lots of used parts and order from over seas often also eBay has N.O.S.(not nitro).I also just Root in my garage. I got a few from the yard with no motors for round 250. There's a guy on here with the stock cat back in his garage wanted to trade for a rear window. Us guys out side Cal run 3" turbo back(who wants stock cats if you don't have to have them). Im gone have to spend $4- 6,000 to get mine to look like the one in your photos. And I'm all ready close to $600 in getting rid of my over boost issue. And the $1,200 purchase price. And cost of living out here is low. If it runs Perfect I'd go high as $6,500 here. My first offer to my buddie for mine was $2,000. Every 6 months or so I offer him a $100 less. When I got to $1,200 he bit. Wait the guy out some and hit him with the same offer in a few months( if you're in no hurry). Let him get over what he spent at the garage. He just might bite.and i bet no one but a Audi enthusist will give him much more than the 3,500 you offered. I got super lucky with mine. I know the only reason I got it was me bitching him out when he thought about parting it out. And the fact that he new I'd never part it out. I've had my 10v sedan for over ten years. Had been parked for years looking for parts(gas tank mostly and the time to do it). Now just a fuel system tune after finaly putting in new injectors.
