I would check the wiring to the IAT before condemning it. The sensors themselves rarely fail you can also try cleaning it with some maf cleaner. Other things can cause the IAT fault code too such as intake leaks/boost/vacuum leaks. I've had a bad vacuum line to the turbo bypass valve set it off. If you do end up needing a new one get the newer style 034905379B with a plug you'll need some terminals and a connector as well. A new one will run $150ish so looking for a good used one might be a good idea.

Ok cool so here's a fair update.
I've replaced the front drivers wheelbearing and the clutch slave cylinder since it went bad last week. I do have a question though...
I removed the cap on my power steering reservoir to fill it and decided to clean the strainer too....trouble is, the strainer won't go back in now. Any suggestions? Is it bad if I run without it in?

Put it back in, it may seem difficult but it will go back in.

I can get it in about halfway but then it hits something at the bottom and won't go in. I've tried spinning it and moving it to line it up to no avail. Any other suggestiond?

There shouldn't be anything for it to hit unless something got dropped into the reservoir.
