Default OK, I give up ('86 5000CStq)

It's been a long time coming, and I've tried to be fair, but I'm done trying to get "Audi Murphy" running again. I'll be listing him in the classified soon, as-is/where-is (Yorktown VA), either whole car or parts. The first 24+ years were great, but 18 months of fixing with no end in sight is enough. Other (even older) cars beckon.

"Thanks for all the fish."

From a guy who had an '87 5000cstq bought new; When it's no longer fun to own (meaning repairs are not fun or you don't want to perform them or pay someone to perform them) Get rid of the car.

I had mine for just over 18 years (put 286,000 miles on it) the last six months sucked so I donated it to a charity motors organization after I bought a two year old A8L.

I actually drove it to the donation place fifteen miles away. A mile into the drive, The alternator belt flew off. I kept driving it and made it there. Avoided a $3 to 500.00 alternator replacement!

Thanks for the good advice. Sounds like the alt-belt was a sign!

Murphy's starter was under warranty so I got a replacement and put it in--still no start, but like the alt-belt it provided a confirmation of sorts. Oh well.

Pictures/classified ad to follow shortly.

Thanks again!
