Replacing Starter 1990 Audi V8 Quattro 3.6
How difficult is this job of replacing the starter in a 1990 V8 Quattro (3.6)?
I have a remanufactured Bosch Replacement #SR410X
Thank you!

I did not find a detailed step by step procedure but here are some links to some anecdotal prcedures...........
Sounds like the bolt that goes into the starter from behind is going to be the one that will test you.

Good luck with that. I'm sure there are others that will chime in with some good advice for you.

The 10mm Bolt in Question...
Is the 10mm bolt in question visible through the right fender-well opening on the backside of the bell housing, just above the hole in the bell housing?
I have looked and looked, and that appears to be the one.
I have to change the right front CV half shaft and both lower control arms, so I think its best to get to that bolt and do the starter after I get the front suspension out of the way.

Not at my computer, but found an old link.....Cut a 10mm allen to about 1-1/4"....With passenger distributor out you can look down and see bolt...get allen on as deep as possible as that bolt won't want to come out and you certainly don't want to strip it. 10mm box end and short piece of pipe should break it loose....then if you want, ratcheting box end makes it a bit easier....Don't use ratcheting box end to break bolt loose, or you'll break it like I did. Don't remove bolt all the way, just slide it back. Verify switch wire isn't all baked like most of them....Good luck, Tom

One trick I've found on the control arms is to wrap a ratchet strap around swaybar and compress it inward so when you get the nuts off the ends, it slides right out/back in. Tom
