V8 Quattro 1992 - Headlight removal
Hi all, I am stumped as to how one goes about removing the headlights on this V8 Quattro 1992 model. I need to replace the rubber trim around the headlights and have not figured it out yet. Anyone done this before? Do I need to remove the bumper first? Any solutions or advice would be much appreciated.

First question is where did you get the rubber trim, and what did you pay for it?
In the 14 yrs of having V8's I've never replaced that trim, so not sure how it attaches/what access you need, but my guess is to pull bumper/slide core support forward. If you are gonna keep the car, you need to get familiar with that anyway, as it makes doing anything on the front of the motor/belt job much easier. Trim goes around the corner markers so if the rubber has to slide in to holders, you'd need to get all that out of the way, and easiest way is to move whole package forward.....once again, haven't done it. Book doesn't appear to have a notation for headlight trim...Good luck, Tom

If that was for both sides, it's about half of what the only supplier here wants for both. Calculator said 900 sk=$107....If your guy has availability, I'm probably in for a set also

Fender seal or weather trim
There is a 2nd rubber trim which is positioned directly above the headlight as apposed to the ouside edge of the headlight. This is of course attached to the hood.
Part numbers as follows for trim attached directly to fender, as in photo:
Fender seal or weather trim

OEM441823738D Right fender
Currently in the process of checking availability in Sweden. /Lyle

This trim is in fact attached to the fender and nothing to do with the actual headlight unit, that is to say if we are talking about the same piece of rubber.

Headlights removed, weather strip replaced
Job now done and dusted. To get the headlights out, you first need to remove the bumper, which is a pretty simple job. 3 nuts on each side of the bumper from below, see no 1 on the diagram. Then slide the bumper forwards.
Remove the chrome trim in one piece. Then the 5 screws holding the headlight in place. Two on the top, two below and one to the side. Wiggle the headlight out.
Now the left and right fender weather strip seal can be replaced.
