You need the resistor to draw the current through the LED, btw Radio shack have a led w/resistor built in. Last time I purchase one it costed just under $1.00, but that was over 10 years ago. And if doesn't flash the first time, try changing the wire around for the LED, it does make a different.

I spent a good hour and a half bashing my knuckles around behind the radio cavity. Could only find one, taped to another bundle of cables as shown in the photo below. I'll look again for the other one like you recommend, but so far I haven't been able to find it.
On another note, I found a with an OBD II interface connector on Amazon, which claims to be compatible with http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51A-Zq2B55L.jpg. It requires an which converts the 16 pin plug to the older 2+2 style connectors though. Has anyone here in the V8Q community tried this kind of device?

If the V8 is the only VW/Audi you have the 305 may be worth the gamble. I did get a "cheap" adapter cable, spent about $13.00. So I would get both. If the 305 does not work or you want to upgrade you still have the adapter cable to use with a Ross-Tech VAGCOM.
