Default 1990 Coupe Quattro. Which knock sensor is #2?

I have a symptoms a code consistent with a bad knock sensor. The ECU has stored 2143 and 2144 codes, indicating a problem with sensor 2. I have retorqued both sensors, so I'm resigned to buying a sensor from the stealer (while I generally do not refer to them as "stealers", they have certainly earned the title by pricing this part at over $200.

Anyway, I assume that sensor 1 is near the front of the engine and sensor 2 is toward the rear. Is this correct?

Does anyone have a source for a new sensor or a known good used sensor?

I'm a little leary since the sensor in the car is about a year old.

Weird, my knock sensor was $60 from a local VW place. That different than the one on the b3 90Q?

Default They are the same with different length leads...

I read on this forum that you are supposed to be able to use the newer style ones, with the hole in the center, by using a through bolt to attach them but no one has confirmed that for me. I may be in the market for a pair soon. Timing is retarding between 3k-5k depending on the day. It did is yesterday when I was trying to accelerate onto the highway. Went home and there were no codes.

Default Rear, as stated. Go to www.genuineaudiparts.com for a cheaper new sensor.

Both are the same except for the length of the wire and color on the female plug.

I might have a few newer style sensors around. Maybe I'll try one.

Default That would be great. I think it would benefit everyone to know since...

The newer style knock sensors are a lot cheaper than the ones in the 20v.
