code 2223: altitude sensor
1989 10v 90 (US). Running choppy suddenly even though all issues with car have been taken care of. I replaced the knock and 02, glad to do it. Surprised now by the 2223 code. I do live at 3,000'. But I guess if the current altitude sensor was working correctly, my elevation would not cause any problems for it.
After googling this small part, I know what it looks like and am led to believe it is in the passenger side kick panel. I took off the cosmetic panel and am looking at what I think is the ignition control unit. Is the altitude sensor above it by an inch or so? I don't see it at the moment. Do I have to get at it through the glove box or ... ?
Any advice about getting at it or about the 2223 in general?
My follow-on question will be about where this part would be in other Audi models of those years (apparently it's in things from 4000-5000-A4), so I can go to a parts yard, but I'll save that for after a reply (hopefully).

Should be part number 853919562..check your old one to be sure. That part was used on many VW/Audi cars. Very pricey new. Most likely very cheap from the bone yard.
Don't know if this is relevant..but the calibration can be adjusted. Those sensors may get out of wack over time. See the link:quattroworld.com Forums: UrS4/UrS6/S2/RS2

Update: sensor is indeed where I suspected it is: buried in a niche in the body metal, immediately above and behind the ignition control unit where the front passenger's shins are.
There is a 1999 A4tq at a nearby parts yard. Supposedly the sensor might be in its ECU box under the driver windshield wiper, but in pictures the sensor is sometimes not there actually, having been replaced by some relays. So we will see. Otherwise it's ebay.
